I think most of us work hard for a living, unless we're one of the lucky ones with a job that we love passionately and live to work. I'm afraid my job is a means to an end. More beads!!!!!! Although I do enjoy my job. It's varied and no two jobs are the same and I get to work with a bunch of great ladies and meet some wonderful and interesting people from all walks of life.

Saturday's Child
Saturday's Child works hard for a living.
Something I've learnt from my job though, is we all work hard just to buy more stuff! Too much stuff really. Some of the homes I go into, whether it's to pack or unpack are bursting at the seams with goods and chattles and they always ask (sheepishly) if this is the most we've ever seen. Mind you I'm just as guilty as everyone else. We just like possessions don't we, whether it's so many clothes they won't fit in the closet, or owning every conceivable kitchen appliance known to man, or a million little figurines that have been collected over the years or so many toys they could open a store.....don't get me started on the toy thing.
After every job I always promise myself when I get home I'm going to start culling. Be ruthless, get rid of anything that hasn't been used for two years. Set up a culling station, 3 cartons, 1 for charity, 1 for the tip, and one I'm not certain about. Streamline, pare down, cleanse.......but I just don't seem to get around to it, plus the fact I'm usually so tuckered out when I get home it takes me all my energy just to cook dinner. Maybe next week.
I'm a bit late with today's Post. The day just got away from me.
And this afternoon I was experimenting with a new design that I've saved for last. Tune in tomorrow and there may be a giveaway........just because.

Friday's child is loving and giving.
What a lovely day to be born.
A lot to live up to though.
Both of my children were born on a Friday. One at the very beginning of the day and one at the very end of the day and I have to say they are both very loving and giving.
Black glass beads wired together.
Lots of little charms and dark blue potato pearls all wire wrapped.

Thursday's child has far to go......

Bracelet.
Three strands of base metal silver chain.
Cloudy quartz 14mm faceted beads
Large glass faceted bead.

Handmade silver clasp and jump rings.

After Five Cocktails
I've gone all 'after five' and 'cocktail' of late. A bit girly and glam. This is a choker style necklace with silver and dark grey pearl beads.
Cocktail
With a rather large round faceted glass bead to sit right in front.
With another of my black floral magnetic clasps to tie it all together. (love those clasps)
Had a few pearl beads left over so I made bracelet and mixed in some matt black onyx beads. I like the mix of matt and shiny.
Added a little silver filagree charm.
Sandrine
This bracelet is threaded onto beading elastic.
While my good friend and work colleague Joanie and I were driving to a job a few weeks ago she was commenting on my 'Why' necklace (she lets me navigate now because my new GPS who I've named Rhonda, as in help me Rhonda, speaks to us in a lovely Australian accent and never gets us lost) and I was saying I was bit annoyed at myself because I haven't developed a style. I'm doing all sorts of things from glam to grunge and everything in between. But she made the point that it's not such a bad thing because while I'm doing all these different things I'm not limiting myself and each different style I try I'm learning something. Wise Joanie......she has a point and she's not afraid to voice it.
Now my BFF Carmen has demanded I start naming my pieces. Gawd.....that is so hard, trying to think up names that suit the pieces and somehow make sense. I have a hard enough time trying to think up blog titles. Carmen I'll do my best!

Wearable Willow Ware
Just before I went away on holidays I took a trip down to my favourite Save The Children Fund op shop. They have the best library of second hand books at ridiculous prices and I was desperate for something to read on the plane. I told myself that I wouldn't look in the SH jewellry section (now that's just silly) and I was only there to buy a book. So while I was waiting to pay for said book I gave the jewellry display case a cursory glance and this jumped out at me and begged me to buy it. It was only $4.00, so what was I to do. The money is going to a good cause I told myself and promptly bought it. It's ceramic with a Willow Ware design on it. It doesn't look this yellow in real life. I'm afraid it's my bad photography.
I just happened to have these mottled blue and white beads..........
.......and these little bird charms........
......and two different styles of silver chain........
......and this is what I made.

Also before I went away I made this. It started off as a bracelet (as so many of my pieces seem to do of late).
And became this. The chain is brown polyester, very light and easy to work with. Plus all those little charms gave me the opportunity to practice my wire wrapping. Some of them are still pretty dodgey!
It reminds me of the jewelry from India we all used to wear back in the sixties. That's if you were a bit of a hippy chic which I may or may not have been.

Yippee, I won

Well I'm a bit excited, well a lot excited really. I was the winner of Erin's challenge with my button bracelet. Can you believe it? How fantastic is that.
I probably won't be posting for the next week or two so this is a short post to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a safer and prosperous New Year. I wonder what 2010 will bring?

I Wire Wrapped (well I tried)
Practice makes perfect they say and I need a lot more with my wire wrapping skills, but I'm slowly getting there. There's quite a few different ways of doing it judging by all the tutorials on the web and I guess it's just a matter of finding what works for me. But I won't give up because I'm determined to master it. So I wire wrapped all of the beads on this necklace, pearls, crystals and some little beads from Bali. The filigree components were gold so I painted them with black alcohol ink.
More wire wrapping. The focal is something I picked up at the op shop. Not quite sure what it was supposed to be, maybe a belt buckle. I added some chain and very small cubed turquoise beads and a little silver charm to the 'buckle' as it's very light weight and needed a bit heft added to it. Don't know if I like the two large caramel coloured beads or not. What do you think?
This is made with all re-purposed beads from various pieces of jewelery from various op shops, well all except the bead cap.
Mainly new beads with some odd re-purposed ones and one of my new magnetic clasps in black.
Very hot here today and had a lazy day in the aircon. Even managed a short nanna nap on the lounge, something I don't usually do. I find it very hard to sleep during the day and now I'll pay for it, I'll be up all hours of the night, darn it!

Magnetic Serendipity
Of late I've been having trouble with closures on bracelets. I don't know, maybe I have weird wrists or something because I can't seem to get the different methods to work for me.
Parrot or Lobster clasps like the one below are very problematic for me. I either need to grow an extra arm or have double jointed thumbs, neither of which are likely to happen, so I always have to get someone to do it up for me.
Toggle clasps pose another set of problems. I like to wear bracelets fairly snug on my wrist and usually they seem to be a bit tight for the toggle and clasp to work how they are supposed to.
So I decided to try magnetic clasps and I think I'm on to a winner.
A couple of nights ago I "whipped" up this bracelet without giving the design too much thought and just grabbed beads, strung them together quickly because I was impatient to see if the new clasp would be ok. The next morning I was looking at it and...... Holy Mother of Elvis would you look at that....the magnetic clasp and the silver bead have an almost identical flower pattern on them, spooky ha? Now that's what I call a serendipitous (is that even word? must be because spell check hasn't underlined it in red) happening. I know, small things amuse small minds, but I sure get a buzz out of things just coming together like that.
Two necklaces I made over the weekend. New chain with re-purposed beads and charms. The big heart was once part of an earring from the 70's I'm guessing.
Butterfly, round Bali beads, turquoise beads and chain are new and the three amber glass beads top left are re-purposed from another 70's type necklace.
They're both on fairly long chains because that seems to be how the young'uns like to wear them and they are both for my angel baby who turns 26 today.
So I'm off to ice her gluten free chocolate birthday cake that rose about half a centre metre and looks like a big flat chocolate pancake. Oh dear! I'm afraid my creativity didn't overflow into my cooking skills at all. And if your worried she might see her presents before she's supposed too, don't be, she never reads my blog.

Possessed
I was like a mad woman possessed over the weekend. Here's a sample of some of the pieces I made and there's more to come over the next few days.
Sort of grungy with a bit of sparkle.
Look, no green.
This makes me think of caterpillars.
My new lucite black vintage roses that I'm in love with........
.......added to the resin beads I bought last week.
Soft blues, greys and creams.
and a blurry photo.

I'm Keeping It
Just a few pieces I've been working on the last few days. Grungeboard and wallpaper necklace. The focal is just GB that I painted black, embossed with the cuttlebug and then smudged silver rub n buff and attached to a black chain.
I really like this one and think I'll keep it.
A close up of the texture.
Three bracelets I made with beads and threading elastic all in shades of black, grey and silver.

I' d actually tried to make a three strand bracelet. What a disaster! So it was pulled apart and made into these. Ya win some and ya lose some.
